Only a person completely disconnected from movies or someone living under a rock would not be aware of the massive cultural impact that Marvel Universe has created on modern movie-making and watching experiences. Each Marvel movie and character is unique and has its own dedicated set of strong fan following. However, this blog will focus on Thor Odinson, his character development throughout Marvel movies until now, and how Thor movies (in order) have kept the fun element in Marvel Universe alive.

The character of Thor, currently being played by Chris Hemsworth in the Marvel movies, was first introduced in Journey into Mystery #83 of Marvel Comics. The journey of the character from paper to the big screen was the vision of Kevin Fiege and Louis D’Esposito (President and Co-President respectively of the Marvel Studios). Since the release of the first Thor movie in 2011, the character has appeared in a total of 8 movies, out of which 4 have been solo Thor-led movies while in the other 4 movies, the character has appeared alongside other superheroes belonging to the Marvel Universe.

Just like the character Thor, the movies based on Thor have gained mixed reactions from viewers. Some of the Thor movies are much appreciated while some have received not-so-favorable reviews. Even then, the character remains one of the most loved ones (could be the charm of very handsome Chris Hemsworth) and people are eagerly waiting for the 9th Thor movie which takes the story forward after the climax of Thor: Love and Thunder.

With this information at our disposal, let’s list Thor movies in order while discussing (but not revealing) the movie plots and what the Thor movie franchise has in store for us in the coming years.

Contents

1- Thor (Release Date 2011)

Thor (Release Date 2011)

This movie, in the true sense, not only introduces us to Thor but also sets in motion his journey to becoming a real selfless superhero without losing the charm and the fun element. When exiled by his father Odin on the day of his crowning ceremony, Thor is sent to Earth where he also meets his lady-love.

My personal take from the story was that a Superhero does not need armor to become one. All they need is the right intention.

The movie crossed USD 449 million mark and was the 15th highest-grossing movie in 2011.

2- The Avengers (Release Date 2012)

The Avengers (Release Date 2012)

The Avengers is the first Thor movie where he is introduced to the rest of OG-Avengers such as Black Widow, Iron Man, the Hulk, Captain America, Hawkeye, and Nick Fury among other supporting cast. We are also introduced to Loki (the evil and honestly not-so-evil step-brother of Thor).

The movie Avengers does not really need an introduction or a summary. It is full of scenes, dialogues, and events that will remain imprinted in our minds for a long time.

Grossing more than USD 392 million upon its release, the scene where Thor lights up the sky shows us just a glimpse of Thor’s superpowers

3- Thor – The Dark World (Release Date 2013)

Thor - The Dark World (Release Date 2013)

The next movie in our understanding of how Thor movies (in order) have kept the fun element in the Marvel Universe alive, we are introduced to the 3rd Thor movie and 2nd Thor-solo movie.

In Thor – The Dark World, the main protagonist, Loki, and Thor’s lady love take on yet another challenge. This movie, although with the theme of adventure and fun, touches upon the emotional side of Thor with just one scene in particular.

The end of the movie is the one to watch out for since it acts as a triggering point for the rest of the Thor movies.

4- Avengers: Age of Ultron (Release Date 2015)

Avengers- Age of Ultron (Release Date 2015)

Back with the Avengers team on planet Earth and a few more Superhero additions, the movie does not necessarily focus on Thor. It focuses more on other Superheroes and their relationships. However, like all movies with Thor, the character does not fail to add more to the movie. But if you are looking specifically for Thor, then the next set of Thor movies will not disappoint you.

5- Thor: Ragnarok (Release Date 2017)

Thor- Ragnarok (Release Date 2017)

The best Thor movie without a doubt. It has everything that a solo-Thor movie should have. Emotions, adventure, storyline, great graphics, and anything else you name, this movie has it all.

In Thor: Ragnarok, Thor and Loki come face-to-face with their evil sister (there is one particular scene where Hela breaks something of Thor and when you watch the scene, you are sure to gasp!)

If you are a Thor fan, this movie should be on your watchlist.

6- Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

Avengers- Infinity War (2018)

For a long time before the release of the movie and post the release, there was nothing else that Marvel fans spoke of. Predictions for the next movie were all around including the actual world and the internet.

Thor is shown in all his glory when he is introduced to Strombreaker and I couldn’t breathe in that moment when Thor made his entry back on Earth when it looked like we were losing the war! Thor and all the other superheroes made a true mark with this movie.

7- Avengers: Endgame (2019)

Avengers- Endgame (2019)

You had to be in theaters when people went crazy over the last movie of phase 3 of the Marvel Universe. The shock, the laughter, the pride, and the hears, every moviegoer went through all these emotions in those 3 hours and 2 minutes of Avengers: Endgame.

Upon its release, the movie garnered about USD 2.5 billion worldwide and remained one of the highest-grossing movies of all time (until it was overtaken by Avatar: The Way of Water). The number itself shows how much the movie was loved by fans globally.

8- Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)

Thor- Love and Thunder (2022)

The last in the list of how Thor movies (in order) have kept the fun element in the Marvel Universe alive, is the latest Thor movie called Thor: Love and Thunder. The movie received some negative reviews and wasn’t as loved as the previous Thor movies, but that does not mean that the movie was bad. The expectations from the people given the rich history of Marvel movies is high and hopefully, the makers will be able to deliver in the upcoming Thor movies.

This is the complete list of Thor movies in order. We have to wait and watch how the character develops in the coming movies.

Conclusion:

Thor movies have its share of success and failure but the character Thor remains a fan-favorite. It seems that Chris Hemsworth was introduced to movies for playing this role as it gets difficult to separate the actor from the character since its introduction in 2011 (more than a decade ago).
